This hand-built ceramic vessel is one half of The Arrangement, a two-part work exploring societal expectations, perception, and the limits of control.
When positioned in front of its accompanying tiled wall panel, a painted bouquet of flowers appears to emerge from the vessel, creating the illusion of a traditional floral arrangement. However, the illusion only works from a specific viewpoint. Even a slight shift reveals that the flowers and vessel are entirely separate.
The work draws a parallel between this carefully constructed illusion and the expectations placed on individuals, particularly women, questioning what happens when real people don't fit neatly into the roles created for them.
