In Short Stories, I use the doll to consider the tension between a life shaped by expectations and an identity of one’s own. Drawing from personal experiences, observations, and feminist literature, these ceramic sculptures form a visual diary of girlhood and womanhood. Pattern, textile references, and scenes of home hold conflicting feelings of comfort, obligation, pleasure, and confinement. The mineral richness of terra cotta becomes a metaphor for accumulated experience, giving these figures a material presence that challenges expectations of purity and perfection.
